Buying Assistant at Cantoni
Merchandise Management ’15
What advice do you have for students beginning their careers in your profession?
Always challenge yourself. You can constantly learn more and do more. There is no such thing as learning too much. I regularly ask the Buyers and Senior Buyer what I can take off their hands and help them with. All of it will help you build stepping stones for what you want to do. There’s always something you can learn from someone or something that can help you somewhere else.
Are there things that you know now that you wished you had known as a student?
KNOW EXCEL! This might seem like something small in college, but really knowing it gives you an advantage. I’ve always been fairly good at using Excel, but you can always know more. I never realized how much companies require you to be mastered at it.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I actually never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I did grow to enjoy the aspects of Buying. Once I took John Conte’s Buying class, I absolutely loved it and couldn’t wait for the next Buying class during my Bachelor’s program.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Take advantage of all the internship/volunteering Wade has to offer. I made sure to do multiple things each trimester to help me gain experience and expand my knowledge. It also helped me better understand what I liked/didn’t like and helped searching for a job after college easier.
