Spotlight: Kayla’s Unique Eye

Kayla Jones

Graphic Design ’04

Owner / Creator / Artist of Kayla’s Unique Eye

What is a “day in the life of” you as a photographer/owner of Kayla’s Unique Eye?

A day in the life with me, well that varies on the day. One day, I could be scouting locations for a family session around the DFW area or locally close to the studio in Decatur. The next day, I could plan the next exhibit of my creative visions. Being a photographer is one of the greatest adventures I have ever taken. I get to meet so many wonderful clients and hear their stories. Being a client of mine is not just for that day. It is a bond we develop and create for a lifetime. Other days, I am scheduling and planning my goals for the year. I don’t think of myself as just a photographer, I am a creator, I am a visionary, an artist and I love to present my clients with a unique memory.

An average session prep is scouting the location a few weeks in advance and returning to that location the week of the session. I like to get my creativity flowing before meeting my clients. The day before is cleaning my camera gear and getting all my equipment ready to go. From the camera, lenses, flash, lights, umbrellas, reflector and so on. Depending on the type of session depends on what all I pack. Day of meeting the clients is my fav. I get to see their smiles for the 1st time or see the returning smiles as I watch my clients grow. After, I begin editing and creating the sneak peek preview. I also begin putting together the online proofing gallery. This is the most exciting part, you get to play around and create works of art for your clients.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am an official published author of my 1st coffee table book set to release this month. My goal to accomplish this before 40, well 41 is good to me. Happy Birthday to me on August 6th. Super excited at this upcoming adventure and where this path will lead for my photography and as a woman in business. Book #2 and #3 will be set to release later this year. There will be 5 in this collection of coffee table books. Book #1 gives a sneak peek into the areas of photography I have experienced, I also love to be unique, so it is also a teaching book for the inspiring photographers out there. I will give you a hint, book #2 is going to start breaking down the different subjects I photograph, starting with macro. So look for book #1 “Unique Vision” to his Amazon and the shelves by August 2021.
