Alumni Spotlight: Tanisha Miller, Project Designer

TANISHA MILLER

Project Designer at Furniture Marketing Group

 – Interior Design ’15 –

What does a “day in the life of you” look like:

I work with a lot of corporations and the majority of our job is workstations for open office arrangements. We also work with ancillary furniture. I have been working on “dedicated” jobs which means they go on for months and it’s the only job I focus on until it’s complete. There are a lot of conference calls and emails to sift through to may sure everything is good for order entry. The client can change their mind every 2 hours if they want but at the end it’s all worth it. It makes you smile to know you got through it.

What do you enjoy most about your career?

What I enjoy most is being able to see a finished project that I worked on. The feeling I get from knowing that I created a space that people will work in and enjoy excites me.

What advice do you have for students beginning their careers in your profession?

Do not to expect $60K salary coming out the door. It’s unrealistic. You will definitely have to work your way up in the industry. Stay humble and get things done.

What opportunities, decisions, and events have shaped your professional life?

Joining IIDA (International Interior Design Association) has helped me out tremendously. The relationships formed by being a part of this association are so valuable. I have been a council member for 2 years and I wouldn’t give it up for anything.
