Unity Herrera Turns Dreams Into Reality

Meet Unity Herrera, alumna of Wade College and Field Sales Rep at BuddyLove. She grew up in New Mexico and moved to Dallas where she graduated with her Bachelor’s in Merchandising and Design with a Merchandise Marketing & Management concentration in 2018 and her Associate’s prior to that in 2017. Check out insight on her story below.

What you get to do?

BuddyLove is a women’s lifestyle brand that has both a retail and wholesale platform. I am a part of the Sales Team where we sell six months in advanced wholesale collections to boutiques around the country. I manage the territories of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, and New Jersey. In the Sales Representative position, we sell apparel at our showroom in the World Trade Center / Dallas Market Center in Dallas, Magic in Las Vegas, and in Atlanta during markets, as well. We also travel eight months out of the year in a mobile showroom van where we visit boutiques in our territories while showing the line. Being a part of the BuddyLove team also includes social media engagement, being a part of photoshoots, and attending work events – which are always a fun time!

How did education at Wade College help prepare you for what you are doing today?

My education at Wade College has prepared me in so many unexplainable ways and I am beyond thankful for it! From the tedious Excel and Buying classes to the exciting Trend Forecasting courses, no class in between has been unnoticed for what I do today. The professors at Wade College always offer tremendous expertise at a one on one environment! Attending Wade College allowed me to experience the Wholesale Industry in an internship like position, and now I have a full-time dream job in this industry!

What opportunities, decisions, and events have shaped your professional life?

First off, the best decision I have ever made was moving from a small town in New Mexico to Dallas, and attending Wade College to pursue my dream in Fashion. I was able to begin interning at a young age during college which shaped my professional life in such a positive way. Thankfully, I was under the wings of a well-trained Wholesale Vendor, which changed my dream of being a buyer into my goal of pursuing a career on the Wholesale side of business. Of course, there have been challenges along the way and in-between. But those are the moments I am most thankful for, to be where I am now in my professional life.

What advice do you have for students beginning their careers in your industry?

Every day is a fresh start. Always work hard. Never give up on your dreams! Coming out of college and pursuing a career in the fashion industry is difficult. I have experienced it myself. But I knew never to give up on my dreams and goals. Start now while you can. Intern, network, and volunteer because you never know where that can lead you to. The opportunities are endless!
